William Carlton “Billy” Taylor, 73, lifelong resident of Parksley, VA, passed away Monday, March 25, 2024 at Shore Health & Rehabilitation Center. Born March 19, 1951 in Parksley, he was a son of the late George Edward “Beans” Taylor and Madalyen Louise Taylor.
Billy was a hard worker and built a career as a waterman. It didn’t matter if it was fishing, clamming, or oystering—if there was seafood to be harvested, Billy would do it without complaint. He loved taking the children in the family out with him to catch a fish in Guilford Creek. When he wasn’t working, he could be found watching a good western (especially one starring Clint Eastwood) and listening to Johnny Cash. Billy was an excellent cook and could make just about anything. He made delicious chicken and dumplings and his family especially looked forward to his soups in the winter. A helping hand to many, Billy was the kind of person a friend in need could count on to be there with a drop of a hat. He was a proud American and appreciated the values of days gone by. The most important thing in Billy’s life was his family. He spent every minute he could with them. He will be missed.
He is survived by his sisters, Marie Fisher and Wanda Thomas, both of Bloxom, VA, and Leisa Taylor of Parksley; brother, Howard Gardner, Jr. of Onancock, VA; nieces, Shelia Foos and Angel Marie Hopkins; nephews, James Fisher and Charles Gardner; great-niece, Madalyn Hopkins; great-great-niece, Melody Hopkins; great-nephews, David and Rodney Taylor; great-great-nephew, John Cash Hopkins; and brother-in-law, David Evans.
Other than his parents he was predeceased by his sister, Ruth Ann Evans; sister-in-law, Linda Gardner; nephews, Chris Gardner, Mike Cox, and Jamie Bowen; and great-niece, Darla Faye Hopkins.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Parksley, VA.
