Mr. Frank Aloysius Savannah, 93, husband of the late Mary Ella Vanote Savannah, and a resident of Melfa, VA for the past twenty-one years, formerly of Port St. Lucie, FL and Bayville, NJ, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at his residence.
Born February 19, 1920 in Newark, NJ, he was a son of the late Frank A. Savannah and Louise Harding Savannah. Frank was an electrical instructor in the Belle Glade, FL prison system, and had worked as an electrician at Fort Monmouth in New Jersey. He was a devout Christian, and a current member of the Rock Church of the Eastern Shore. Frank served his country in the U.S. Marines during WWII, aboard the USS CVE 113 Puget Sound in the Pacific Theatre, which was among the first ships to enter Tokyo Bay, Japan, around 1945.
Survivors include five children, Dawn Schneider and husband Roger of Bedford, VA, Frank W. Savannah of Destin, FL, Harry Savannah and wife Karen of Milesburg, PA, Dean C. Savannah and wife Jani, and Mark M. Savannah, all of Melfa; sixteen grandchildren, Carrie, Donna, Frankie, Michelle, Andrea, Brian, Christian, James, Leslie, Tom, Paul, Spring, Jess, Matt, Amanda and Kristen; thirty-two great-grandchildren; a brother, Richard Savannah and wife Betty of Port Jervis, NY; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Frank was predeceased by two sisters, Elaine Oest and Jacquelyn Zollo ; and a grandson, Shane Savannah.
There will be a visitation at the Williams-Onancock Funeral Home in Onancock, VA, on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM, for his many friends on the Eastern Shore of Virginia.
Funeral services will be conducted from the OBrien Funeral Home in Wall Township, NJ on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Middletown Township, NJ. There will be a visitation at the funeral home the night prior to the service, Friday, August 2, 2013, from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.
